WSIB Workplace First Aid Training Requirements

To meet WSIB requirements in Ontario, employers must ensure that first aid stations are under the care of a worker with a valid first aid certificate at all times when work is in progress.

Employers with 1 to 5 employees:

Must ensure that the first aid station is at all times in the charge of a worker who holds a valid Emergency First Aid certificate and works in the immediate vicinity of the station.

Emergency First Aid
Employers with 6 to 15 employees:

Must ensure that the first aid station is at all times in the charge of a worker who holds a valid Standard First Aid certificate and works in the immediate vicinity of the box.

Standard First Aid
Employers with 16 to 199 employees:

Must ensure that the first aid station is at all times in the charge of a worker who holds a valid Standard First Aid certificate and works in the immediate vicinity of the box.

Standard First Aid
Employers with 200 or more workers in any shift:

Must ensure that the first aid room is in the charge of a registered nurse or a worker who is the holder of a valid Standard First Aid certificate, works in the vicinity of the first aid room, and does not perform other work of a nature that is likely to affect adversely his or her ability to administer first aid.

Child Care & Early Years Act Requirements

In effect August 31, 2015

This Act applies to unlicensed child care, home child care providers contracted by a licensed agency, licensed home child care agencies and Licensed child care centres.

Employees and home child care providers will now require a valid Standard First Aid certificate, including infant & child CPR.
